{bb} bcnu 1.12 (wee brother?) released

     Dear all,

I don't want to re-ignite the flame wars of a few weeks ago about the
pro's and cons of BB as opposed to others.

If you are happy with the functionality of BB then stop reading here
and I apologise for wasting your time and bandwidth

If however you have hit some limitations and are frustrated with some
aspects of BB and other tools then read on, or have a look at the home
     page on:

     http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/~jap/bcnu/ or
     http://members.tripod.com/~bcnu6666/ or

bcnu is a tool I have developed over the past 18 months. It was
inspired by bb but has a number of key differences.

bcnu is a web based client server monitoring system .

     - as well as acting as a collector the bcnu daemon schedules agent
     monitors to run.
     - each monitor runs as a separate agent. It can be scheduled to run
from anything from every 1 minute upwards. Each agent can be run in a
     time frame i.e. 8am-6pm.
     - agents are controlled from a simple config file, this specifies
parameters for each agent as well as their schedule.
     - agents can send/receive files as well as simple messages (this is
also used to update agent configs and can be used to upgrade bcnu
     itself)
     - agent data is automatically resent if there is a problem
     - all data received by the master system is logged and can be held
indefinitely. (It can also be searched!)
     - web pages can be static or dynamic(using cgi)

These are the main differences, but there are lot's more. If you are
interested in helping out with testing bcnu(it's pretty stable on the
current platforms) or porting to new platforms I'd be glad to hear
     from you.

The documentation is a bit sparse at the moment but I'm working on it.

Sorry for the slight abuse of this list, but I hope that the people
who read this may find bcnu of interest, in particular those of you
who have ported bb to other platforms e.g. NT/Netware may be
interested in developing an interface to bcnu.
