RE: {bb} DHCP and BB

Title: RE: {bb} DHCP and BB

Well I for one would like the option of using addresses rather than names, I appreciate
the issue of dependancy but frankly for our network, if the DNS is broke, then it's all
broke anyway.  Could we do this with some sort of variable in bb-network.sh, set to use
IP address by default and could be administratively modified to use names?

BB supports DHCP everywhere except 'ping'.  (i.e. BBDISPLAY and BBPAGER
can be dhcp addresses, etc).

At the moment (actually for a long time now), we only ping IP addresses
(and not names).  This means that in the case of DHCP (0.0.0.0) - the
ping test is disabled automatically.

Problem was based on the idea "what if the DNS is done" - we're adding
a dependancy where none is needed (this combined with the ability to
use completely bogus names in the bb-hosts file), meant that in order
to avoid confusion, it was just disallowed.  Also since a name can return
more than one IP address, the results can be misleading as well.

The ping code is in bb-network.sh... does anyone out there have an opinion
on whether to bring this back or not?
