Re: {bb} Testing SMB/NetBIOS server on NT remotely

I'm not sure if there is already something, but in case there isn't, I'm sure
you could get smbclient (part of the Samba package) to perform a NetBIOS
connection test of some sort.

I haven't tried this myself, but it might be worth a try.

Subject: {bb} Testing SMB/NetBIOS server on NT remotely

Does anyone have an external script that can check to see if a Windows NT
server is responding to NetBIOS requests?

I have an NT server that occasionaly ceases to allow users to browse or
connect to shares on it. However, the server still responds to pings; so
BB thinks that it's up.

Unless I've misconfigured BB for NT, the NT client doesn't alert me when
the server can no longer receive NetBIOS requests. The service hasn't
died, it's just not responding.

Since user complaints to us are "I can't connect to the server," I'd like
to periodically test connections to the server from a UNIX box.

Does anyone have anything close, or do I need to roll my own.

Thanks,
Andy
