When you create a proper bb-hosts file, the conn data is updated
automatically. In other words, if you have a system listed correctly in the
bb-hosts file, the BB Master system will ping them, and the conn flag will
tell you what the connection status is.

Place a dummy message in the messages file as soon as you use the newsysfile
cronjob to rotate the old files.

(Just create a one line file somewhere, i.e. named "reset.txt" and add this
to the newsyslog commandline in the root crontab:

       ; cat <path>/reset.txt >> /var/adm/messages

That will add a copy of the line in reset.txt so you have a messages file
that isn't empty after rotation.
