{bb} Further Info on BBNT vs Oracle

Looking at this in a bit more detail:

BBNT failure started in early January.

On the systems where the failures are happening, the DBA's updated Oracle NT
to version 8.0.5.2.2 on January 12th, with a reboot on the 16th during the
maintenance window. BBNT stopped reporting on the 16th at 20:00 according
to the history files.

According to the "updates" file included with the patch, Oracle "fixed" some
memory overflow, network communication and Perfmon interaction errors. When
I look at the expanded patch file, it appears that all of the MSCVRT files
are changed as well as the KERNEL32.DLL file.

Now that the patch is in, even disabling all ORAPERF functions and all
PERFMON functions in the registry doesn't help with BBNT. On systems that
have not been patched yet, BBNT still functions properly.

I'm currently waiting for a new system to be brought up with Oracle, at
which time I will run a file and registry monitor during the process and
post the changed files.

In the mean time, I hope that this helps in providing a direction to look
for potential conflicts.

If anyone has suggestions on what to look for or try next in order to fix
this, I'm all ears. With the new system scheduled to come up sometime this
month, I've got a promise from the DBA's that they will allow me to
experiment with settings, etc. before it goes live for production.
