{bb} BB and text pagers
Greetings,
I have been using BB for a year now and am upgrading to 1.3a this week.
I am monitoring 75 sparc workstations and a few HP and Auspex servers.
My Auspex servers have 125 filesystems that are monitored by BB. I am
using a perl script to send text pages to my pagenet pager. I wanted
my text pages to be short and have only the failing information in a
priority order so that when the pager cuts off after 200 chars I get the
most important information.
Each time I upgrade to a new rev I have to modify many files to make
make the system work for my site.
The main things I change are as follows:
Reverse the sort direction so that the fullest disks are at the top of
the list so when it is cutoff I don't loose the important data. This also
makes the red error be sent before the yellow.
Modify all of the bb-local tests to change the message sent to the BB
system in the event of a alert. I modify the message to a specific string
to be sent to the alpha pagers with specific information. Here is an
example:
<!-- PAGER ctt-sqc red Wed Feb 2 16:48:54 MST 2000 /home 99% NPAGER -->
This is a comment on the web page so it is not displayed and the pager
script strips out the information between PAGER & NPAGER. This gives
me the specific information that I need without looking at anything else.
Does anyone else make these types of changes?
Thanks Louis
