{bb} RE: Performance Problems with BBPAGE
Let say that bb-page.sh & bb-page1.sh aren't ever going to get
a speeding ticket :)
Try to make your rules as generic as possible, don't create
a rule for each host and service. List as many recipients on
the same rule line. Set first your !rules, if you have any, then
the regular rules.
DO you have recovery set on ? if so, that means you'll get some
extra messages.
What's the pagetype ? Set pagetype to EVENT is OK if you have
a small network but not really worth it when you have lots
of hosts.
You may also want to increase the pagedelay.
bye

Hi Robert-Andre
Thanks for the speedy response.
* I currently have Recovery set OFF.
* I have pagetype set to EVENT, since we have multiple people
responsible for different systems and different application components
(DBA's, App support, etc). I'll try to arrange for a consolidation of
beeper coverage responsibilities to see if I can change Pagetype to HOST.
* I have the default Pagedelay set to 15, and I have each e-mail
recipient set as user@sys.com:~0-720 My goal is to get one e-mail
immediately upon a problem, then a reminder every 12 hours. Is that
definition the best way to achieve my goal?
We are also considering splitting the BB system across 2 servers - either:
* one for NT monitoring/paging and one for AIX monitoring/paging. OR
* one for AIX&NT monitoring and one for AIX&NT Paging.
Any recommendations/suggestions regarding that? Is there any inherent
difference between the comparative efficiency of BBNT originating pages vs
Unix pages that I might want to take into account?
I also will take your advice and restructure my rules. But I have some
questions on the comparative efficiency of the rules options that I hope you
would be able to clarify:
Is it more efficient to have a long list of hosts in bbwarnrules.cfg OR to
define a long host-group in bbwarnsetup.cfg?
Is it more efficient to have a long list of recipients in bbwarnrules.cfg
OR to define a long page-group in bbwarnsetup.cfg? Or am I better off
setting defining a "group" using /etc/aliases?
What is the most efficient way to set my desired page delay of 0-720
(immediate, then 12 hour reminder)?
a) In Page Delay in bbwarnsetup?
b) as a suffix when I define a page-group in bbwarnsetup?
c) as a suffix to a page-group recipient defined in bbwarnrules?
Thanks again.
