Hello,
Saw this in the BBDISPLAY BBOUT log this morning:
bb-network.sh: ERROR on bb-hosts line: csufc1
smtp NOT in /etc/services (CHECK SPELLING)
bb-network.sh: ERROR on bb-hosts line: bb
smtp NOT in /etc/services (CHECK SPELLING)
bbnet: TIMEOUT csuf22 PORT 25...
bb-network.sh: ERROR on bb-hosts line: sequent
ftp NOT in /etc/services (CHECK SPELLING)
bb-network.sh: ERROR on bb-hosts line: sequent
smtp NOT in /etc/services (CHECK SPELLING)
bbnet: TIMEOUT csuf43 PORT 25...
bbnet: TIMEOUT csufc1 PORT 25...
bb-network.sh: ERROR on bb-hosts line: csufb1
pop3 NOT in /etc/services (CHECK SPELLING)
bbnet: TIMEOUT csufb1 PORT 25...
bbnet: TIMEOUT csufb1 PORT 25...
bb-network.sh: ERROR on bb-hosts line: csuf31
Now I can understand the timeouts, but the 'not in /etc/services' bit is
just wrong. The services file is rarely touched and that would only be by me
- it hasn't been altered since the system was installed. Secondly this only
happened at this instance - not before or since, how can it work one time
then not the next?
I checked the code in bb-network.sh and it all looks straight forward, so
there is definitely something odd going on.
BBDISPLAY/BBNET is using BB1.4b on a Sun ultra 10 with Solaris 7. I have to
admit that there are a few 'oddities' going on here with BB. This is just
one of them. I only spotted this because I am investigating another (multiple
'expr: syntax error' errors - looks like its coming from the web page
creation bit; also purpledelay doesn't seem to work - I have it set to
15mins but it still goes purple at 30; and I get
'/export/home/bigbro/bb14b/web/mkbb.sh: test: argument expected ' errors
every so often.
Also, as already mentioned on this list, every so often something goes
straight from green to purple then back - last time it was the dns on the
secondary name server - went purple for 120 seconds - this is not right since
it should have gone red first (I use our own dns ext script) and how come it
would have lost contact for just that one service and not the others? Very
odd. It has happened on others system with other services as well - the
'cpu' on my own pc (running rh linux 6.1) had the same problem - needless to
say the network was fine since it was using the pc at the time!
I'll investigate further, but I was wondering if anyone else had such
problems or any ideas?
John.
