Re: {bb} How to monitor https

BB is a monitoring software, not a security control software, though it can be used for security in some regards. However, since I see there may be a language barrier here, do you want to use BB to monitor the web URL that is used to configure the AP? ie: you assume that if the URL is available, then the AP must be working? Or do you want to use BB to monitor for people logged in to the AP as the admin? Or further, do you want BB to query the AP's URL that shows active usage, stats, and connections? Or perhaps something else entirely? We'll need to some clarification of what you are trying to do in order to help you.

From a generic point of view, BB has built-in capabilities for checking http and https sites. Most of the Linksys, D-Link, etc APs operate on a port other than port 80. BB can also be configured to use an alternate port. If credentials are needed, you can use lynx or curl. Try searching through the BB archives for setting up lynx or curl to pass credentials to a website (http://support.bb4.com - click on Mailing List Archives)

To answer your question specifically, you cannon use BB to control access to an AP. In terms of access, there's typically two things being accessed: 1) the URL used to configure the AP and 2) a client with a wifi card using the AP for network/internet access. For item number 1, you simply must choose a good password. If the software on the AP supports changing the default admin username, do so. You might also be able to restrict access to it with your firewall, depending on your configuration. For the 2nd item... this is all done between your AP and clients and whether or not you choose to use WEP. I highly recommend WEP, but remember that wireless can be made more secure, but it cannot be made completely secure.

Hope this helps...
