Re: {bb} BBRELAY question

A server is a device that performs one of the server-related
functions - either paging, serving pages, or testing via network tests.

If you want to run an ext script on remote hosts, that server has to
be defined as a BBNET server. If you want to run local tests that
are custom to a client machine, they are also run from the $BBHOME/ext
directory.

For example, you want to see what your table space is like on a mysql
instance running on one of your clients. Just because you run an
external (to BB) test on a client, it's still a client.

If you want to develop a custom test that probes a port to verify
it is up an running, accepting requests and is able to respond with
a specific response, put that script in the ext directory of your BBNET
server.

Now, for the specific question. A server defined as a BBRELAY only
has to know where the BBDISPLAY and BBPAGER are, so it really
doesn't have to be a BBDISPLAY or BBPAGER itself. No clients ever
need to know where the BBNET is, other than the BBNET server itself.

So, in answer to your question, a BBRELAY can be a regular BB client.

I'm running bb1.9d, so it may have changed since then.

Paul

This is a stupid question I am sure. The host that sends info to a BBRELAY
has to be a server, correct? Not just a client? This server/client thing is
really fuzzy to me anyway. I never know whether it is the server or client
that needs to run the EXT scripts, etc...
