Re: {bb} Web page draws Slowly

When you mention "draws", what does you mean?
A) Creates bb.html
B) Updates bb.html
C) Delivers bb.html to your browser
D) Renders bb.html and images within your browser

A - There's normally an initial delay to prevent purples from a
BBDISPLAY that was down a while - if a host is up the entire time that a
BBDISPLAY is down, the host shouldn't be penalized just because the
BBDISPLAY isn't listening for or polling for status messages.

B - There's normally a five minute interval between display updates.
This can be altered if you don't mind influencing the BBDISPLAY's CPU
load average.

If you want to change A or B, hunt for bb-display.sh in your
$BBHOME/runbb.sh. BBSLEEP is B, and there's a "sleep" for A just before
it invokes bbrun to call bb-display.sh.

C,D - BB has no control over how fast or slow your web server or
browser runs. It beg the question: are other static web pages (e.g.
Apache manual pages) slow? Is it a browser issue (is another http user
agent, e.g. WGET, faster)?

Other possibilities: have you checked your Apache2's error_log? Are you
taking advantage of the "group-compress" and "page" directives in your
$BBHOME/etc/bb-hosts?

Hello,

I have Big Brother configured on two boxes now, one is an older P400 on
SCO
Unix running version 1.9c and the web page draws extremely slow, this
box
also is our internal DNS server so i thought i would try the latest
version
1.9e on a P4 1.4 Ghz/256 RAM, box that does nothing else for the
moment, so
Apache2 only serves BB and there is plently of bandwidth but again the
web
page draws extremely slow, it must take 5 min to draw the main page.

Are there some tweaking tips someone can give me that's give BB a
boost?
It's monitoring about 45 hosts, on a 10/100/1000 network, with the
balance
of the hosts on the 1000 portion of the network, which i can't believe
is
too much for an enterprise network.
