Could you try going to the bbgen-3.0/c-ares-1.2.0/ directory and do
a "make adig", then "./adig -s ip.of.your.dnsserver tanis" and 
also the same command but with the fully-qualified dns-name for 
tanis (tanis.frmug.org, or whatever) ?
