RE: {bb} bbgen 3.0 and fping problems

Also, to only ping ip, add --dns=ip to the options as well.

Subject: {bb} bbgen 3.0 and fping problems

Hi,

I've just decided to setup a new BBDISPLAY, and so I used the current
btf version, added larrd-0.43c, made sure it was all working, and then
added bbgen following the 'terse' instructions.

At the end of this, I have two... problems?

1) Purely cosmetic, using standard BB my sub pages were listed at the
bottom, now they are at the top (maybe a flag, I really am not worried
about this right now)...

2) Out of all the hosts, I have two which are showing red conn tests.
Copy from bb-hosts file:
10.0.1.10 SCA.Filesrv # testip

here is a copy of what shows in the logs file:
red <!-- [flags:ordAsTILe] --> Fri Sep 17 01:19:15 2004 conn NOT
ok

Service conn on SCA.Filesrv is not OK : Host does not respond to ping

System unreachable for 16 poll periods (3356 seconds)

&red 10.0.1.10 is unreachable

and from the command line I see:
bb@proxy:~$ fping -Ae 10.0.1.10
10.0.1.10 is alive (40.5 ms) [<- 210.0.75.241]

fping defined in bbsys.local:
bbsys.local:FPING=/usr/sbin/fping
which, if I read the source code correctly, equals, fpind -Ae as
above...

The only thing I can consider is that it is trying to ping the hostname
instead of the IP address, even though I am using testip in bb-hosts.
Actually, it can't be this, since I also have:
10.0.2.1 SCA.Kogarah # testip
which obviously is an invalid dns name, and yet this one works properly.

I thought it also might be the capital letters, but again, that one
works, the only thing it seems to be related to is that subnet 10.0.1.x,
even though we actually traverse 10.0.1.1 to get to 10.0.2.x, and that
it works from the command line...

If anyone has suggestions, I'd be pleased to hear them...

Thanks,
Adam
