The tests you mention above are all network tests that run from the
BBNET server. These tests actually try to connect to the ftp, smtp,
telnet and ssh services on the host - or ping it - across the network,
so failures can be caused either by the service being stopped on the
host, or by some network problem along the way. In fact, it may also
be caused simply by the BBNET server not being able to lookup the
IP-address for the hostname you listed in the bb-hosts file (if you
want to test the host by the IP-address given in bb-hosts, you should
put "testip" on the same line as the host entry).
