Re: {bb} Installing BB clients in heterogenous environments

Hi Ben,

I have a mix of mostly Solaris (2.7, 8, and 9), and Linux (several RH).  RH Linux 7.1 is my main display.  I installed BB 1.9c on the BBDISPLAY first, then installed again on one Solaris box, but defined the host as a client pointing at the Linux box as the main BB system.

When I now add a new client, I run "install/bbclient" on the Linux box when the target is Linux, or on that Solaris box when the target is Solaris.  On the new client, I populate the ext dir as needed by that client and I set files in etc as needed by that client.

Yes, that means no two systems have identical ext or etc directories.  But each client and the server have what they need to run.

Folks,

Just want to check to make sure I have something straight.  I am
running BB 1.9c on a Solaris 8 server.  The vast majority of my
monitored hosts are also Solaris, with a smattering of Windows
(running the Windows BB client without issue).  I have three Linux
hosts that I want/need to monitor.  As I figure it, in order to do
this, I would need to tar up the $BBHOME from my server and copy it
over to the Linux hosts, then recompile BB on that host, correct?
Creating a client for it (using $BBHOME/install/bbclient) would not
result in the sources being included in the client package, thus I
would not have them to recompile.  Additionally, if I just downloaded
a fresh copy of BB 1.9c and tried to compile it, I would still need to
get the contents of the $BBEXT and $BBETC directories copied over as
well.

Is there an easier way to set up for clients on a different OS than the server?
