The most common reason for this is failure to source etc/bbdef.sh
prior to running the bin/bb binary on the command line. The
arguments that are provided on the command are sufficient to
send the specified status message, but the page message (and it is
a separate message) is only sent automagically if the necessary
environment variables have been set prior to making the call.
