The server is running on Sol8. I have restarted BBMON (after ensuring all
BBMON processes were timed out) to no avail.
BBMON, do you mean BBNET ?
On which host is the BBNET server running on ? Sol8 ?
The problem is that some of the clients respond fine while other do not.

If you get purples on network tests, it's probably because bb-network.sh
on the BBNET server is hung waiting for a test to return. Thus is has
stopped testing.
Next time you get purples, check which BB processes are running
on the BBNET server and if any seem stuck.
BTW, what are the values of PINGPAR1 and PINGPAR2 in bbsys.sh AND
bbsys.local (if any).
