Re: {bb} current version of LARRD

What is the current version of larrd and where can I find it?
I just downloaded 0.43c from Dead Cat, but the file dates are all from
early 2003.
AFAIK, you are using the latest version.
The installation docs make reference to things that don't
exist in BB version 1.9e such as $BBHOME/etc/bb-config. The docs even
refer to $LARRDHOME/tmp which also doesn't exist.
Yeah, some of the install docs need to be updated. I just installed
larrd a few weeks ago and ran into a couple of places where they were
out of date.
Here are some tips, based on what I ran into in getting it running on my
Linux server. I'm still new to bb and some of this may be specific to
my installation since bb was already in use before I started messing
around with it, but FWIW here goes:
1. During the install, the BBHOME refers to the server portion of the
bb install, bb1.9e-btf. bbc1.9e (or whatever you named it) is of no
concern.
2. When building rrdtool, I had to cd into both perl-piped and
perl-shared and run perl Makefile.PL, followed by make install, to get
make site-install-perl to work properly.
3. Use the larrd-graphs.cgi v1.5 from deadcat.net in place of
larrd-graphs.cgi that comes with larrd-0.43c.
4. $LARRDHOME/tmp had to be created manually. Since it contains the
image files, I put it elsewhere and just made the appropriate change in
larrd-config.pl. Make sure you give ownership to the apache or whatever
user ID you use to run apache.
5. If you're running Linux & bb-memory.sh and want the "actual" memory
data to be graphed, you'll have to fix memory-larrd.pl. I've got a
patch that does that.
6. la-larrd.pl won't graph load average data properly from free bsd
clients because $line gets messed up on the word "Wired" when it is
looking for "red". I've got a patch that fixes that.
7. The vmstat output from RHEL 2.1 and 3.0 is different, and
vmstat-larrd.pl has to be fixed to properly graph both clients using hte
same vmstat-larrd.pl script. I've got a hack that works, but I'm scared
to share it since it isn't pretty at all. :D
I could swear there was one or two more things that I did, but I can't
recall them at the moment.
I've had BB up and running for a few months and now want to check out
larrd.
It's completely worth the effort. Such a useful tool--I dare say its
equally as important as bb itself.
Hope that helps.
Tom
