You can use hobbitlaunch for external scripts, yes. But I would use it
only for those scripts that need to run on the SERVER (either the
BBDISPLAY or BBNET server). Client-side extensions are better handled
by setting them up as extensions to the BB client.

I'm not 100% sure how bbmap works, so I cannot really tell. It really
depends on a single issue: Does bbmap access the files in the
bbvar/logs/ directory directly or not ? If it does, then some work is
needed since those files no longer exist - you need to do a network
request to get the status of the monitored system instead of walking
through the logfiles. It's not terribly difficult - I've done it for
the maint.pl script that I use.
Worst case - there is a compatibility module that makes the Hobbit
daemon store files so it looks just like Big Brother. It slows down
things (a lot!), but for a site with about 100 systems it might be
OK - at least for some time while we get bbmap ported.
