Title: Message
I have a couple of
websites with a single page being checked for two distinct content strings that
happen to be hosted on Windows servers.
The BB-HOSTS entry
for them is of the form:
1.2.3.4
website #
cont=test1;http://website/testpage.asp;STRING1[[:space:]]OK
\
cont=test2;http://website/testpage.asp;STRING2[[:space:]]OK
This produces 3
columns for the host - test1, test2 and http - as expected. Alerts for
test1 go to one pager, alerts for test2 go to another pager, and alerts for http
go to yet another location as required by the people carrying the
pagers.
When there is a problem with the website, though, with the
specific examples being an Internal Server Error 500 code, the http column goes
red with a 'DNS ERROR' message and the test1 and test2 columns go clear, but
report the error page results. This causes confusion with the people
carrying the pager, as they think there is a problem with the DNS server or Big
Brother, rather than seeing the 500 error from their
servers.
There is no evidence
of an actual DNS error - the only error is a 500 code from the webserver
produced by the content test.
