RE: {bb} External Script problem [bcc][faked-from][bayes]

Glad you got it working, and you're right...sometimes a different point of view is all that it takes. Having a beer while you think it over has proven to solve a few problems for me as well!

regards

Kevin - thanks for the comment. It is amazing what a bit of thought
(and a beer) will do for the thought process sometimes. Talk about
not seeing the forest through the trees!

Your comments about how everything should be setup in bb-bbexttab
are absolutely correct. Trouble is, I use BBconfigure to generate my files
and literally followed the documentation.

I did solve the problem. I got a bit creative and defined the fping and my UPS
script under the template for the BB server. When I ran bbconfigure, the
correct values were transferred to bb-bbexttab.

bbexttab now looks like:

pohsnetman3:ext:fping.sh
pohsnetman3:ext:apcsnmp.sh

Now all I can say is Doh!

Thanks for the help....

I am not familiar with this approach. If I want to run apcsnmp.sh I typically make bb-bbexttab look like this

localhost :  : apcsnmp.sh

and somewhere in the script I would specify the targets. I am not familiar with this script though....anybody else care to take a crack at this?

you have to place the script in $BBHOME/ext and then call ot from $BBHOME/etc/bb-bbexttab. Use the following format:

localhost :  : newscript.sh

restart and it should work...if not, send back the results of BBOUT and we will try something else.

hope that helps

Greetings All.
First off, I am a relative newbie to BB, and have finally subscribed to the
mailing list.

I am currently attempting to get an external script to operate correctly to
monitor close to 100 APC UPSes that we have installed (with the APC 9617
card). To that end, I have found the appropriate script on the mailing list
and have made modifications to make it work. It has been modified to use
the correct OIDs and to use snmpget as opposed to snmpwalk.
I'll send it to deadcat in the next few days...

The only problem with said script is that it works fine when I run it manually.
External scripts do not start when runbb-sh is started. I have verified that the
appropriate BB variables are set (and do work) by printing the values throughout
the startup scripts.

I have checked BBOUT and it does not start any of the external scripts. I have trolled
the archives quite extensively, and haven't found any one thing that jumps out at me.
Apart from loosely following Craig's setup guid (and reading all the READMEs and
INSTALLs in everything) I have not made any changes.

I have the following:
Fedora Core 3 on a Compaq DL360. 1.5GB memory. 38.4GB mirrored. It is up-to-date (as
of Friday) with all patches, etc...
I have added Net-SNMP (the latest) after removing the SNMP that came with FC3.
BB 1.9e
bbgen-3.5
fping

Could anyone suggest anything that I should check? I'm certainly at wit's end....
Thanks!
