RE: {bb} Acknowledgment of Alerts

For example, we are using the two-way text messaging service carried by Nextel for Motorola i830 cell phone. We can let BB server treat this device as a two-way pager and thus send only certain messages (we call them page messages) to the device. When replying a message using this phone, however, we are not able to modify the subject field of the message, simply because it is not editable in this device with this service. Thus, when we reply a page message sent from the BB server with a string "delay=xxx", (where xxx is a number), we have to type the string in the replying message body. Since the unmodified bb-mailack.sh script only looks for the "delay=xxx" string in the subject field, it will of course fail to find this string in the message.

I have therefore modified the bb-mailack.sh script as I detailed in my first email to this mailing series, so that the modified bb-mailack.sh script will look for the "delay=xxx" string in the body field, instead of the subject field, of a replied message. In this way we can now use the Motorola i830 cell phone to reply a page message sent from the BB server with a, for example, "delay=120" string typed in the beginning of the replying message body. The modified bb-mailack.sh script will be able to find it and will stop the BB server from sending out the same page message for the next 120 (for example) minutes.

Does this example help? Please let me know if you still have questions regarding this.

Thanks,
