You could always ask your management for some "busy work" to perform. Or, maybe turn your BB server into a games host as well as doing monitoring for you...
Oh, never mind.
Or something possibly useful, join the seti-at-home research project. Looks like they have a unix/linux client. Then you could add a larrd graph showing how many seti modules your server had worked through.
There is also a cancer research project, but looks like they are only windows based.
