If I understand you correctly, your BB server is remote and cannot see
your local machines, and you would like to monitor the VPN for local
to remote connectivity.
You could install a local client and run an "ext" script to report
back to the server. There would be no need for the normal local
test unless you need them too. You might even avoid the client
altogether and just run a bit of perl from cron.
You wouldn't get red and yellow conditions this way, only green and
purple, so you would need to use a small enough purple delay to get
the sensitivity you need.
The second option that occurs to me would be to run a local BBNET
and BBPAGER, which only monitors your remote server. It might be
overkill, but would need much less hacking.
Cheers, Phil.
