BB is implemented mostly from shell scripts, so by default it will
weed out "dangerous" characters from the status messages to guard
against potential attacks involving shell meta-characters like '&',
'|', ';' and such.

There's a setting in the RUNOPTS that you can tweak to allow these.
Browse through the etc/bbdef* files and you'll see it.
