RE: RE : RE : {bb} SNMP traps from Cisco products

I think BB-MRTG is the plugin for monitoring levels on MRTG graphs. Use MRTG to do the rrdtool work -- you can set it up to chart the interface error count -- then bb-mrtg can monitor and alert based on that info.

Sorry, but this is all theory to me, I've used MRTG and BB, but not bb-mrtg... yet...

I'm not sure the interface errors are sent via snmp traps.
But I guess you can get the interface input packets and errors using snmpget.

You can then create your own datas (using rrdtool for example) and set the warn and panic
level. I'm not very good in rrdtool, but there is a good mailing list.

Can this method be used to pull interface errors? I noticed that on deadcat there are a number of scripts to display cpu status and other functions, but I could find nothing to monitor interface errors like the results you would see with a "show interface" command.

What would be ideal would be a script that would, say, divide delta input errors by delta total of input packets for the same time period. Then you could set an alert threshold of 0.5% and be notified if the error ratio went above that percentage.

Am I asking for the moon?

Thanks,

Mike
