{bb} increase bbd connections

is there a way to increase bbd connections.  We had one of the purple
explosions, and I removed the logs.  They are slowly coming back in,
but I am getting lots of:

bb CONNECTION TO xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx TIMED OUT...
bb CAN'T CONNECT TO bbd SERVER @ xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Is there a way?
