I'm getting this in my log system:
Bad protocol version identification 'Big-Brother-Monitor-1.9e' from
10.1.14.118
Which is logging under the sshd log facility. Originally I was
thinking it could be a polling issue where BB just checks protocol
versions that the sshd is allowing, but now I'm not sure what it is
doing.
Is this error safe to ignore?
bb (actually bbnet) just checks that something is listening on the port, it
doesn't try to negotiate a session, i.e. "it doesn't speak ssh".
If bb "spoke ssh", there would just be another line in the syslog, like "bb
logged in" or "unknown user bb" or something so it is not worth the trouble.
The current line shows that bb is polling, while other might be confused for
login attempts by humans or zombies.
The line is safe to ignore.
