I'm going to assume that this is the latest BTF version, 1.9h.

This isn't really specific enough. There are many different types
of GNU/Linux distributions out there. From the PINGPAR1 contents
in bbsys.local, it looks like a recent Redhat or derivative.

These are all network (not client) tests, so it's the BBNET part
that is getting stuck.

The "-w3" flag is the important one here. It stops "sticky" versions
of the ping command waiting forever. That cause can be eliminated.
You didn't say otherwise, so I'm going to assume that there is nothing
in the BBOUT file that looks odd. The first thing to do, if you're
actually using "SMTP" as a directive in bb-hosts, is to change it
to lower case (i.e. "smtp"). Unix and Linux systems are case sensitive
and will normally use lower case, so it's a good habit to get into.
Probably the simplest debugging technique is to reduce the contents
of your bb-hosts file until the problem disappears. Then, you can
add back entries until the problem reappears and isolate the host
or test that's causing the problem. This will result in the missing
tests being purple, so you should either remove them (with bbrm) or
disable alerts for purple until the problem is resolved.
Cheers, Phil.
