New to bb, checking some things out. My question: is it possible to
send only a few error messages by modem?
Here's the setup. We have a VOIP system in-house, meaning we have only
one analog phone line available for dialing out with. However, this
phone line is used by the fax machine as well, meaning that we need to
limit the amount of time a modem would be on this line as much as
possible (granted, in theory, it -shouldn't- be using the line much to
begin with). What we're looking at, is notification for loss of
connection (ping) to an external machine (let's use google.com in our
example). So, if the computer loses connection to Google, Big Brother
would send a notification by dialing the modem (qmodem to a pager)
INSTEAD of e-mail (as loss of connectivity to Google would mean loss of
'net access, making e-mail rather futile).
Is the use of a modem for Big Brother an 'all or nothing' deal? Is
there a way to do what I want (through BB at least), or am I asking too
much?
