Re: {bb} Not getting bb mail, remove host question (again) - sorry

Susan,
The easiest way I have found to remove all remnants of a host is to, as you have done, remove the host from the etc/bb-hosts file, then running the bbrm command from the bin directory. The most direct way to remove all the purple services is to run './bin/bbrm HOST SERVICE' against the purple entries exactly as it is shown on the web page. The bbrm command will return and confirm all the files that are removed for that particular host. Also if you just run bbrm from the bin directory it will give you the proper syntax.

First off, I appologize for having sent this question 3 times in the past 2 days. In hind sight I believe our spam filter has been filtering out all the bb mail so I haven't seen any mail. Could someone either tell me how I get to the August Mailings (if possible) or be so kind as to answer my message again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Here's the request again:

I have read many entries in the mail list regarding this topic and have tried many things, to no avail. Iâ•˙ll start at the beginning.

I want to remove a host which is dead from bb monitoring. I looked at the FAQ and followed those instructions. Entry:(I've removed a host in etc/bb-hosts and the screen is purple)

After you remove a host(s) in etc/bb-hosts, you must remove the
corresponding files in $BBLOGS, www/html and $BBHIST. BBLOGS and
	BBHIST are defined in etc/bbinc.sh

	cd www
	rm logs/thedeletedhost*
	rm html/thedeletedhost*
	rm hist/thedeletedhost*

Doing this and having removed the entry from bb-hosts removes it from the web site but Iâ•˙m still getting paged. If I type: find /var/bb -name ╲deletedhost*╡; comes back blank.

Then I looked at the mail list and found entries to:

Shutdown bb
bbrm deleted host
Startup bb

So, I added the host to bb-hosts (using same name), restarted bb, saw that the host was on the web site, shutdown bb, ran bbrm (which produced output that the files had been removed), started up bb. Still getting paged. I tried this twice just in case I did something out of order.

Then I saw an entry about stopping the client software on the host. In my case it is a netapp box for which bb is just doing a connection test. To my knowledge there was no client running on the netapp box and besides, that box is dead.

Then I saw the entry about removing the files in /var/bb/bb/tmp. I shutdown bb, removed these files, checked that there were no files with my deletedhostname under /var/bb, and restarted bb. Still getting paged.

Then I saw an entry about turning on security with etc/security. So I cp etc/security.DIST etc/security; and added the the networks that I wanted to monitor and the individual hosts in deletedhost's network (left off the IP for deletedhost).

Then I restarted bb. Still getting paged.

Then I tried using ignforall. I edited bbwarnsetup.cfg and added the delethost (estore01) to the ignforall. I restarted bb. This line is in my bbwarnsetup.cfg:ignforall: estore01*.

This netapp box has died and already been replaced with new IP address and host name and I need to retire this estore01 name and IP. Any ideas? Iâ•˙d love to hear. It is embarrassing that I canâ•˙t fix this and everyone knows because of the constant paging.
