Hi folks,
I have a problem monitoring smtp services on remote networks:
When the monitored smtp service is not on the same subnet as the bbnet/bbdisplay host, then bb shows red (trouble) for the service every few hours and just for a short period that is more or less the length of BBSLEEP for bbnet:
- if BBSLEEP=300, then the downtimes shown are between 4 minutes 30 and 5 minutes 30.
- if BBSLEEP=150, then the downtimes shown are between 2 minutes and 3 minutes.
The weird thing is, that the smtp service shows successful connection attempts in the logs all the time - and a downtime shorter than BBSLEEP does not make sense.
All bb-hosts are the same, the ping times between bbnet and smtp host are excellent – I do not know where to look.
Any hint or help is appreciated.
Dirk

In summary, the BBSLEEP setting defines the interval between tests, soBut less? How can it report e. g. 4.5 minutes if BBSLEEP is 5 minutes?
the minimum downtime that BB will report will be the same as BBSLEEP,
more or less.
Where do I find the numerical response code? All the display page says isThe most likely cause of the reported failures is that the SMTP server is "throttling", rejecting new connections due to a load spike. The numeric response code of the failed connection, as shown on your display, should indicate the
