I'm glad someone else asked this question. However, I tried to install
bbgen 3.6 on bb 1.9h today. The patches for the bbd-features threw a few
errors but I moved on until the make failed. I don't have the faintest
clue of what to do with the source code. Could I get some more advice
please? Thanks!

Seems you missed this message:

You can use bbgen for as long as you like - it's very stable, as
evidenced by the fact that version 3.6 - the last release of bbgen -
only contains a few bug-fixes. Should the worst thing happen, you do
have the source-code for bbgen and thus the possibility of fixing bugs
yourself.
But bbgen is no longer being developed. Hobbit has taken over from bbgen
but cannot be used as an add-on to Big Brother - I wouldn't be able to
enhance and evolve Hobbit the way I do if I had to maintain full
compatibility with BB. Hobbit is a full replacement for BB, and the two
have just gone their separate ways.
Regards,
Henrik
