RE: {bb} MSSQL Monitoring

I used bb-sqlserver.vbs by Oliver Bassett off of deadcat.net. But it
just checks the MSSQL WMI counters. I found that it did not work well
if you used named instances of MSSQL (or any name other than the
hostname for that matter). Lacking to VB skills to fix it, I just
forgot about it.

Bbsqlserver by Eduardo Mayoral does a query and other stuff, but relies
on perl DBI to work, which can be a pain.

For what it is worth, I rely on Sitescope on a Windows host to do this
kind of thing instead since I can easily set up an odbc connection to
whatever database I need.

Subject: {bb} MSSQL Monitoring

Is anyone monitoring any MSSQL databases on Big Brother via a script on
the
BB server or on the Windows Agent itself. I wanting to query the
database
on a routine basis to ensure that the database is responding. We have
had a
few times now where out MSSQL database has locked up and not responded
but
we haven't been able to catch that via BB as of yet. I would rather do
it
from the agent on the windows server if possible if not then from the BB
server is fine also.

Our BB server is running on RHEL 3 and the MSSQL server is running on a
windows 2003 server.

Thanks all in advance
Vince
