Re: {bb} Problems with Sending Mail
Thanks,
The BBDISPLAY, BBNET, and BBPAGER server reside on the same machine on
the internal side of my network. The tests are being performed on
the client side. I have been testing by putting a bogus
processname which isn't running in the PAGEPROCS variable in the
bbdef-client.sh script, however the CPU and DISK notifications have
been verified as not sending out notifications as well.
The clients on the DMZ side of my network have access to port 1984 on
my single BigBrother server (BBDISPLAY, BBNET, and BBPAGER). The
information regarding the tests is getting to the server properly and
displaying properly on the webpage, but the notifications are not being
sent out. Also, the notifications for DMZ hosts are not showing
up in the BBVAR/acks/notifications.log file, although thanks for that
tidbit of information.
To test on my internal network, I input the same bogus processname into
the PAGEPROCS variable in bbdef-client.sh on an internal client and the
notification was sent out properly.
Is there any other way I can see how far the request to send the notification is getting?
Thanks,
Jeff

Because there is a firewall involved, it would be helpful to know
a little more about your set-up. Specifically, the location of
each of the BBDISPLAY, BBPAGER and BBNET machines (internal
or DMZ) and which test you are investigating with.
Internally, BB uses port 1984 (by default) for communication.
The BBNET machines and any clients need to be able to contact
your BBDISPLAY and BBPAGER machines using this port.
As a result, if you are using a client side test to investigate
this and your BBDISPLAY and BBPAGER are different machines on
the internal network, it could be that your firewall is allowing
access to the BBDISPLAY but not to the BBPAGER. If, on the other
hand, you have a separate BBNET and BBPAGER in your DMZ, it
might be that this BBPAGER is unable to contact your mail
server. A useful source of information here can be the file
BBVAR/acks/notifications.log. It will indicate whether or not
the BBPAGER is actually attempting to send the alerts.
Cheers, Phil.
