If this does turn out to be a transient problem, it's going to make
debugging much more difficult. If it does re-occur, it's probably
better to enable debugging only on the paging code rather than the
whole of "bbd". It will reduce the amount of information that you
have to search through. Were you unable to find any reference to
the "missing" alert condition in the debugging output when you had
this problem? That would suggest to me that BB was not receiving
the paging message. Are you still using version 1.9e?

So far, the only common denominator would appear to be RHEL 3.
