{bb} weird problem with smtp

Hi.

I have a problem with one of my machines returning a bad result every second test:

  adminserver.mms.vic.edu.au.smtp red Mon Sep 26 12:11:17 EST 2005 SERVER - smtp DOWN
  adminserver.mms.vic.edu.au.smtp red Mon Sep 26 12:31:16 EST 2005 SERVER - smtp DOWN
  adminserver.mms.vic.edu.au.smtp red Mon Sep 26 12:51:16 EST 2005 SERVER - smtp DOWN
  adminserver.mms.vic.edu.au.smtp red Mon Sep 26 13:11:17 EST 2005 SERVER - smtp DOWN

every other test is green.

Both machines (BBDISPLAY/BBNET and the client) are "crusing" and do not report any 
other problems of all the other services, just smtpd on the machine. This is not the 
only network I am running and I have never seen this behaviour before.

Both machines are only 1 hop apart, and there is nothing going on on the network
(school holidays ...).


I looked at cron logs whether something is running in parallel but I cant see anything.


Any ideas??
