If by "cross cable" you mean the type which is used to connect
one network card directly to another (also sometimes known as a
"virtual net cable"), I'm afraid that I don't really see the
point. The network interfaces which are used for this connection
would be exclusive and wouldn't represent what anyone else would
see. Your mail server would need another interface in order to
do anything useful and, if that interface developed a problem,
BB wouldn't be in a position to notice.

I realise that it's more than likely that I've just misunderstood
the situation, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Apologies
in advance if that is the case.
