It's simple - if you have "favicon-green.ico" etc. in your gifs/ 
directory, stick something like this in your web/bb_header file:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="&BBSKIN/favicon-&BBBACKGROUND.ico">

Hobbit ships with a set of favicon images, contributed by Paul Backer.
