In this respect, the way BB performs it's SMTP test might not
conform strictly to the protocol, but I doubt it will be changed.
The standard network tests try to do as little as possible to
confirm the status as quickly as possible. Introducing a pause
would only slow things down.
The recommended solution here is to change your Sendmail config
so that it does not use greet_pause in exchanges with your BBNET
machine(s). I think that it's just a question of setting a value
of 0, but I don't know the details.
You could also modify BB to use the pause that you require, or
test SMTP using an external script, but these cures are likely
to be worse than the disease.
