{bb} compile error on fedora core 4

I get the following error when I run "make" on Fedora Core 4:

bbd.c:718: error: invalid storage class for function âbbd_timeoutâ
------------------------------

I have tried the suggestion here:

Which is to change

static void bbd_timeout()

In bbd.c to:

void bbd_timeout()

But I still get the same error.  
I have tried completely removing it and untarring again and I still get the same error.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
