In short, yes. It should be possible to retain the older BB installation
and modify it to run as a client, but I wouldn't recommend doing that.
Once you've installed the new server part, adding the matching new
client part shouldn't give you any problem.

That looks like a good plan. The client-side tests are no longer
included within the server software, so you will need to install
the client software to get those. You can wait until your happy
with the operation of the new server, but the local client tests
will evetually turn "purple" unless you tidy them up.
