IIRC Exim has an option "smtp_enforce_sync" to control this.
It may be possible to restrict this so that it is not applied to
the BBNET server. Otherwise, you may need to create a custom
extension script to play nice with Exim, or modify BB directly.
You might also try the ":s" (silent) modifier with the smtp
directive, but I suspect that this will only result in a
different error being generated by Exim.
