While it may not be strictly related to this problem, version
1.6e1 is quite old. I'd definitely suggest that you look at
upgrading soon.
Expiration of messages was introduced in version 1.6b, but I
can't remember if anything has changed in the way it operates
since then. There should be a variable MSGEXPIRE (in etc/bbdef.sh)
on the client side that governs this. The default should be to
expire yellow alerts in 30 minutes and red ones in 60 minutes.
