Re: {bb} Multiple BBNET servers
There's a dirty little secret - bb-hosts don't need to be the same.
Actually, each of our bb-hosts file is different. Most of the clients
only know about the BBDISPLAY and the BBPAGER. No client knows
which BBNET belongs to them. Actually, the closest two bb-hosts
files are the BBDISPLAY and BBPAGER. Although BBPAGER only
has the list of ip addresses and host names. The BBDISPLAY doesn't
know what tests are being performed on each host, and the BBNET
servers each have their own list of hosts, the only thing in common
with them is the BBPAGER and BBDISPLAY.
So, you have a distinct BBDISPLAY and BBPAGER in the DMZ, or are
they the same machine? Is the non-DMZ server a
BBPAGER/BBDISPLAY/BBNET server, or are they each different?
We have 4 BBNET servers, all capable of performing the same tests,
a BBDISPLAY (which also functions as it's own BBPAGER) and a
separate BBPAGER. We used to have a BBPAGER/BBDISPLAY/BBNET
server in each of our DMZs (with the non-DMZ server defined as a
BBRELAY) and only required 1984 from the specific hosts in to
the internal network to the specific display and pager.
So, just add BBRELAY to the DMZ server, list all your DMZ
hosts in the BBDISPLAY. If that is also the BBNET server, just put
a noconn after those machines in the DMZ and you'll get the
conn (plus any other net tests) from the remote (DMZ) bb server.

Paul

How does one handle the following situation?:
One cannot ping across the firewall in my organization. DMZ machines
can
ping other DMZ machines and non-DMZ machines can ping other non-DMZ
machines. My future BB machine will be multi-homed. However, there is
probably a way to handle this with two different machines. However,
what
is it? bb-hosts is supposed to be the same on both hosts, and I only
want there to be one display.
How is it done?
