So it does not look like the client is reporting under the wrong
name. If you use "ps -ef", can you see the client process called
"bb-local.sh"? Does BBOUT on the client side look like:

  Fri Jan 27 23:53:57 GMT 2006: Starting Big Brother...
          Starting Local tests (bb-local)...
  Big Brother 1.9i started

Is there anything in BBOUT on the server side to indicate that
messages are being rejected?

The next thing to try would be a test of the BB port. This is
normally done with the "telnet" utility. If you do:

  telnet 66.240.178.227 1984

the connection should establish and then, after a few seconds,
the server should close it. A line should be written in the
server side BBOUT file to show the dropped connection. If
telnet closes immediately or hangs indefinitely, something
else may be getting in the way. The next step would be to
double check that no firewall or other software is blocking
that port.
