My take on this is that the key component is the BBPAGER machine. As
long as that is OK, you will be notified of any other part that has
a problem. As a result, the recommended way to ensure a robust BB
set-up is to configure a failover BBPAGER machine.
As an alternative, you could configure a "cron" job to send a "page"
message for a fictitious host. Something like:
export BBHOME=/usr/local/bb/bbc1.9g-btf
. $BBHOME/etc/bbdef.sh
LINE="page unreal,mydomain,com.chime red `date`
This message is for information only.
Nothing to see here."
$BB $BBDISP "$LINE"
