Re: AW: {bb} Migrating big brother 2.30 (Windows) to 1.9i (GNU/Linux)

Hi Sebastian,

other ideas: firewall (ping from commandline works?), settings for fully qualified hostnames differ in the two systems (name missmatch?)
Rolf

Hi Rolf,

thanks for your prompt response. Yes, the line contains BBDISPLAY and BBNET, like you can see below:

127.0.0.1 srv-lnxbb4 # BBDISPLAY BBPAGER BBNET testip

Btw: srv-lnxbb4 itself is one of the few hosts which are shown with a green stus icon.

I also have updated the PING variable in bbsys.sh and bbsys.local to the correct path for my distribution, but it still don't work.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen Sebastian Noack

Hi Sebastian,

did you adapt the line for BBDISPLAY and BBNET in the new bb-hosts file?
regards
Rolf

Hi,

I try to migrate my big brother server from Windows Server 2003 to
GNU/Linux. I have installed successfully Gentoo Linux and the Apache
Webserver on another machine in my network. I have also installed the
big brother server 1.9i according to the README.INSTALL file. Eventually
I have copied the files bb-hosts.cfg, bbwarnrules.cfg and
bbwarnsetup.cfg from the big brother 2.30's etc-directory on my windows
server to /opt/bb/etc on my linux server. Of course I have renamed
bb-hosts.cfg to bb-hosts. Now I can see a list of the hosts listed in
the bb-hosts file when I browse to my new big brother server by a
web-browser, but only with the column "conn" and without any status icon
at the most hosts, while it is still looking quite normal on the old big
brother server running on windows.

The clients are all on Windows, running big brother 1.08d and most (but
not all) of them do only know the address of the old bb server. But does
it matter for the conn-state? Doesn't the conn-test only perform a ping?

Best Regards
Sebastian Noack
