Very odd. I don't recall seeing a problem like this before.
Just for the record, is this the latest version (1.9i) of BB that
you are running? Are you running a single (combined BBNET, BBPAGER
and BBDISPLAY) server, or a more distributed installation? Also,
what OS (including version) are you using? Has the problem occurred
for both network tests (conn; http; ssh etc.) and client tests (cpu;
disk; procs and msgs)? Is anything unusual being written to the BBOUT
file?
Perhaps the most unusual thing is that log files are being updated
with the incorrect status, but will be re-created (if deleted) with
the correct one. Functionally, I can see no difference with these
two operations as far as BB is concerned.
I get the feeling that eventually you may have to enable debugging
in bbd.c and plow through the large volume of output to trace what
is happening. If you do, it is generally a good idea to temporarily
switch to a minimal bb-hosts file before starting the debugging run.
Cheers, Phil.

There are no physicists in the hottest parts of hell, because the
existence of a "hottest part" implies a temperature difference and
any marginally competent physicist would immediately use this to
run a heat engine and make some other part of hell comfortably
cool. This is obviously impossible. (Richard Davisson)
