I think that the last rrdtool version which was reported as working
with larrd 0.43d (out of the box) was 1.0.50.

If you prefer to get your hands dirty, it looks like there are two
areas of possible incompatibility. One relates to numeric lables:

and the other to colon characters within a comment field:
